Eat Happiness for Breakfast

“I saw more clearly than ever, that the first and primary business to which I ought to attend every day was to have my soul happy in the Lord. The first thing to be concerned with was not how I might serve the Lord, how I might glorify the Lord, but how I might get my soul nourished and in a happy state. I saw that the most important thing I had to do was to give myself to the reading of the Word and to meditation on it.” Can you guess who said this? (Initials G.M.)

Someone else recommended starting the day by arranging a bunch of flowers, and I can see how that would also put you in a good frame of mind for arranging the rest of the day.

But for me, putting Scripture in my mind right away is the most reliable way to fill my soul with the hope and confidence of true, deep happiness.

What’s your secret to making yourself happy first thing in the morning?

Hi Tracey! Are you quoting George MacDonald? What a great attitude to persue first thing in the morning, “To have my sould happy in the LORD.”
My morning starter is music. Somehow music cuts through my fog filled, coffee deprived brain, and sets a positive pattern for the day. But I do think you and George have picked the better path to follow: “scripture is truly the most reliable way to fill my soul with the hope and confidence of true, deep happiness.” Yes,indeed!

Yes-GEORGE, but not MacDonald. This George lived in Bristol, England, from 1905-1898 and ran a huge orphanage.
Music is a glorious way to start the day!
